Green Abode article

The great people at Green Abode have published a guest article about my experiences of getting cavity wall insulation installed in our Victorian house - see http://www.greenabode.co.uk/victorian-house-cavity-wall-insulation/

I have had a couple of people contact me saying that Victorian homes only have solid walls - clearly they haven't read the article!

Hi Ross. Very interested to read your article about your cavities. When was your house built (I am guessing it was quite late Victorian)? and where is it (exposed location??)?
Years ago my Mum had a flat in a converted posh terrace of three houses, and that had a cavity at the front only which faced S-W; built about 1900ish.The construction was a 9" solid wall, then outside that a cavity then 4 1/2 inch facing brick.
And I never thought to ask for CWI!

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your feedback.Sorry for not getting back to you sooner on this. The house was built around 1880-1890. The location isn't terribly exposed as we are in a fairly urban area in Hampshire.

It's 18 months on now and we haven't had any problems with dampness and we've seen a 25% drop in fuel usage.
